Red Mangrove, Bahamas, 7/24
I didn't realize how much photography meant to me until I looked through my camera roll and realized just how much time I put into taking photos. I began to take photos immediate when I received my first smartphone, though unfortunately most of my earliest photos were lost prior to more recent technology. I find photography to be a fun way to express myself and my interests.
For example, many of my photos are of nature, whether it be rocky coastlines or temperate forests, which reflect my interest in the natural world as a whole. My passion for marine biology is also highlighted, as most of my photos are of the ocean, tide pools, and other aquatic environments. Some of my favorite photos are close-ups of various micro-ecosystems, like the roots of a red mangrove (Photo, left) , the lichen-encrusted side of a log, or the top of a rotting leaf. Close-up photos like these reveal my interest in the small-scale aspects of nature. Of course beautiful scenic views are also of interest.
I find being able to take photographs from the point of view of an ant or crab to be an important tool for visualizing the importance of these micro-ecosystems to the animals they host.
